“Why Don’t You Like Fun?”

By reading my future posts, you will probably notice, I am an addict. I have made it past the denial stage and am moving on to acceptance. “Yes, I am SBUX-A-Holic”.
Since I work in the financial industry, I know how a cup of $1.50 coffee turns into $13,000 over a period of time if you were to save the money and invest it… but… as an addict, I prefer to spend that money on a green and white cup that will hopefully help me get through my morning.
Well…as I was standing in line at Starbuck’s this morning, staring at the pastry case and wishing the line would move faster, a father and his three kids were in front of me, slowly deciding what they wanted to eat and drink. The kids were grabbing every sugary drink available and pointing at every muffin, scone and coffee cake in the case. Then it happened.
The little boy said, “Daddy, I want a cookie.”
I was thinking to myself, “Yeah right buddy, at 10:00am in the morning…good try.” But then, I heard it…. “Which one do you want?”
What? Really? I immediately thought, why do Dads always get to be the fun ones? They always seem to be the ones that get to bend the rules. If I were to say yes to a cookie for breakfast, I would have to hear every single morning, “Can I have a cookie?”
Now, I definitely do my share of bending the rules, don’t get me wrong. We do have ice cream before dinner, stay up late past bedtime and feed the ducks despite the millions of signs posted around the pond warning of the “environmental danger,” but it just seems to me that Dads are there to break the rules, while Moms are there to set them.
That’s probably just how it is with my situation… but for the record, some Mom’s don’t hate fun…they’re just trying to be consistent

Awesome post. I especially like the title corresponding with the old commercial. 4 yr old boys always seem to have such a simple perspective on life. I can’t wait to see what my third little guy turns into @ age 4. His brothers were vastly different at those ages….its always like turning the pages of a new book.

Thanks! I really appreciate your comment. Sounds like you have your hands full with three boys! Isn’t it amazing what little ones come up with sometimes. It would be nice to have their simple perspective on life once and awhile. Our world gets so clouded up with stress, cellphones and bumper to bumper traffic that we forget how simple life really is… I can’t wait to see how your little guy is at age 4
Would love to hear!
